The governor of Rivers State of Nigeria, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, on Friday, advised Nigeria’s former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, against any plans to pitch camp with APC, the All Progressives Congress.
The intention of the APC is to ruin Jonathan’s reputation, Wike claimed.
Wike further stated that the offer, to Goodluck Jonathan, of the APC ticket for the 2023 presidential election is a trap.
Wike said, “I will tell him not to go anywhere. ‘These people don’t like you. You should know them very well that they don’t like you. What have they not said about you? Have all the things they said about you changed?
“APC only intend on bringing in PDP people who have a name and destroying them so that they will not have anywhere to go again.
“I respect the former President. I know he is a man of integrity. If I have the chance to advise him, I’d tell him, ‘Sir, please don’t make that mistake. If you want to run for President, run under PDP. Nigerians cherish you more than this government. They have seen that all the things government told them are lies.”
In the event that former president Goodluck Jonathan ignores his advice and joins the APC, Governor Nyesom Wike vowed not to support him.
He said: “To pick ticket means you’re representing the interest of a party. I’m in PDP and I will not be involved in anti-party activities. If he is in APC, I won’t support him because I’m not into that kind of politics.
“It is not about ethnicity for me, but about the party. If he joins APC I can’t support him.”
There have been rumors that former president Jonathan is planning to defect to the APC ahead of the 2023 general elections.
