Shun partisanship to save Nigeria from blood-thirsty aliens, Ortom urges, as Buhari, Senate react over killing of over 40 travelers in Sokoto

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State: The Senate, on Wednesday, mourned 40 travelers killed by suspected bandits in Sokoto state while on their way from Gayan in Kaduna state

The Senate, on Wednesday, mourned 40 travelers killed by suspected bandits in Sokoto state while on their way from Gayan in Kaduna state.

The travelers, according to reports, were ambushed in Angwan Bawa, Sabin Gari Local Government Area of Sokoto State, by the armed men who set fire on their vehicle and burnt them alive.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the recent killing.

“I am very distressed at the manner of death visited on these hapless citizens who were undertaking a legitimate journey to another part of the country,” Buhari said, in a statement released by his media aide, Femi Adesina.

“It shows that the evil this administration is confronting is one that requires the support and involvement of all Nigerians.

“I extend deep condolences to the families of the victims as I assure that the security agencies will continue to give their all to bring to an end the operations of these despicable people.”

Coming under order 43 of the Senate rules, Senator Ibrahim Gobir (Sokoto East), drew the attention of his colleagues to the gruesome murder of the travelers and lamented the spate of killings, which, he warned were alarming and on the increase.

The Senate observed a minute silence to mourn the victims of Monday’s attack by bandits.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has expressed deep pains over the callous killings, while condoling with Governor Tambuwal and the people of Sokoto state and praying God to grant the victims rest and the families they left behind the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

He said that the boldness these terrorists are exhibiting daily across the country is a clear indication that the nation is in grave danger and stands the risk of losing out its sovereignty if urgent steps are not taken to eliminate them and keep Nigeria safe again.

Ortom called on Nigerians to shun partisanship but join hands with government and security agencies to expose these terrorists to save Nigeria from these mindless killings by the blood thirsty aliens.

Annihilate, eliminate bandits, enroll them as terrorists…
